1. Religious Policy RELIGIOUS POLICY The UCKG i nstitute for Education religious policy will be a SINGLE FAITH, namely CHRISTIAN. 1. Everyone has the right to freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief and opinion. RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES 2. BIBLE reading and prayers observances may be conducted at the school premises and during activities provided and conducted on an equitable basis and that attendance by learners and members of the staff is free and voluntary. 3. In the sense that the UCKG Institute for Education is a private institution and it’s under the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God a nd has the vast majority of the parents/ learners are of the Chr istian faith, the parents has approved Bible readings and Christian sin ging at the welcoming in the morning and meetings. 4. The preciousness of other religious groups shall however be respected and equal time opportunity shall be given to them. As it is logistically impossible for the school t o cater for these requirements, the parents of the affected learners must provide a suitable alternative . RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 5 . The UCKG Institute for Education Act states that ; it is every learner's right to receive religious education in so far as it is reasonably practicable. The staff members and parents expects every effort to be made to accommodate this right in line with the Department of Education's survey1996, which indicated that the majority of the population is in favour of a singl e faith system up to grade 7 . The philoso phy is that it is important for learners to be educated and nurtured in religious principles and the value system of the parents, until they are sure of their own faith, before being exposed to other faiths. The reason for this is that it is confusing at j unior school age to learn about systems that are in conflict with the values system adopted at home. As the vast majority of learners at UCKG Institute for Education are from Christian homes, the Christian values system will be adopted for Religious Educa tion. (For other religions see par. 4 above) However in our institution we integrate religion education with life skills .
