1. Discipline Policy 1. INTRODUCTION The UCKG Institute for Education maintains a positive discipline policy, which focu s es on prevention, readdressing , love, consistency and firmness. We stress two main patterns of behavior: respect for other people and respect for property. The children are explained the rules of the Institution frequently, so they are all familiar with the guidelines. 2. PREVENTIO N Please keep in mind that there WILL BE DISAGREEMENTS BETWEEN CHILDREN. Young children have a hard time expressing their feelings; s ometimes they hit one another , throw toys, bite, etc. We will try to prevent this type of problems, readdress when ap propriate, discuss inappropriate behavior and encourage the child to make amends when an offense involves another children. 3. TIME OUT PURPOSE The purpose of time out will be rare except when a brief cooling off period is needed. S ometimes withdraw privileges based on the principle of "natural consequences". An example ; it might be w ere a child is misusing a toy or a school property then he/she will not be allowed to play with the toy or use that particular property for a period of time. Sometimes w hen children are fighting or throwing toys, we will put the toy in a short time out, and then bring it back into circulation a little later. This seems to work better than giving the child a time out all the time . 4. COOPORAL PUNISHEMENT Under NO CIRCU MSTANCES will there be any spanking, physical abuse (physical punishments ) , verbal abuse, name - calling or isolation area will be used to threaten any child . THIS TYPE OF TREATMENT IS TOTALLY FORBID ENED at UCKG Institute For Education (Children’s Act No. 38 of 2005) Neither food nor sleep ing/resting will ever be withheld from children as a means of punishment. 5. TECHNIQUES Besides of what was already stated on the paragraph 3, t echniques will be used to assist the children to stop misbehaving, i.e.: giving the child tasks and responsibilities to do, talk to a child in his/her level. If a discipline problem arises that does not respond to the above - mentioned techniques, we will hold a session with the parents of that particular child and t ogether, we will try to find a solution. 6. CONTRACT TERMINATION The contract of your child can be terminated if his/her behavior prevents us from being able to properly care for the other children. If the problem continues, other arrangements for the care of the child will have to b e made, for the safety and well being of all.
